The Turtle Top which is inspired by the shell of the box turtle, prevents downward pressure to the horse’s tongue encouraging the horse to accept the bit and take the contact forward. The Turtle Top link is also flattened to lower pallet pressure and restricts the movement in mouthpiece, keeping it still and steady in the horse’s mouth.

NS Turtle Top Eggbutt
My 3.5 yr old X Gypsy Cob was finding it hard to get a consistent trot in an ordinary Eggbutt snaffle. Head tossing, lack of contact and trying to keep hands still was not pretty. Fiona Dearing did a professional bit fitting and after about 5 bits the N.S Turtle Top Eggbutt seemed to be the winner Joe seemed to be more relaxed straight away. I have been riding in this bit for some weeks now and his head tossing is so much better and getting less enabling me to have steadier hands and his trot has been improving each ride. We actually get a few strides with good contact and consistent rhythm. We can only get better as he really seems more content working in this bit so I would highly recommend the N.S Turtle Top Eggbutt be considered for a young horse as it has certainly worked for us. Yes it is more expensive than the average bits we all have lying around but the cost has been so worth it having a horse that is comfortable in the mouth priceless.

Turtle Top Eggbutt
I have been using the loose ring turtle top on my sensitive, large tongued gelding for approx 1 year, which he was responding to the best out of the many bits I have tried! However, he wasn't as steady as he could be in the bridle and was getting little rub marks occasionally at the corner of his mouth, so Bit Bank suggested the eggbutt turtle top for the stability in his mouth. He has responded very well and is always very willing to try his best in this bit. No more rubs. He doesn't toss his head or wrench the reins and can keep a steady contact for longer with the eggbutt turtle top. He does get quite strong on a trail ride when cantering (which he has done with any other bit) so that would be the only time I might swap it out for my NS verbindend or buy the universal turtle top as also suggested by Bit Bank. Very happy with this bit and would highly recommend.

Like it
After trying multiple bits for a heavy strong clydie cross we decided to try a bit with less “stopping power” (elevators, Perham’s, combinations) and this bit gives us exactly what we needed; horse that stopped fighting, listened more and was happier. We also like the loose ring but decided that this was better due to sometime unsteady hands. Now we have a happy horse and a happy rider.

NS Turtle Top Tacito
Everyone needs one of these bits in their tack room. Gentle without being ineffective, every horse I’ve ridden in this bit has been accepting and eager to reach for the contact. The eggbutt style is fantastic for youngsters who need more supported steering. NS bits are fantastic quality and well worth the price tag. Outstanding bit! My young horse had a very busy mouth prior to trying this bit. We have now had two rides in this bit and he is so quiet and willing to work on a contact. I can’t get over how quietly he carries this bit!
